I ordered fifteen cubic yards of woodchips and four of leaf mulch from Capital Mulch this year. On June 12th, they spread all the woodchips along paths and about a yard and half of the leaf mulch in a new shrub bed. They heaped the remaining leaf mulch on old sheets that I’d placed strategically around the garden. I’m gradually moving that material into the more heavily planted areas and where there are young, hard-to-see plants.

The paths are now bouncy and the weeds have to fight to get through. The mulch helps retain moisture too. We haven’t had a good rain in a month, so that’s important. The contrast between the two mulches should (might?) make it easier for people to see where to walk.
