The American Lady Butterfly (Vanessa virginiensis) is mid-sized, smaller than a Swallowtail or Monarch and larger than a Skipper. Look for two large eyespots on the lower wing and white spot in the center of an orange patch just above. It’s easy to mistake her for a Painted Lady butterfly, but those are more flamboyant, with four eyespots, without the white-on-orange above. These photos are from June 26, 2022.
